8 erring drivers who were arrested by Citom to pay the P2T-penalty

THE Cebu City Traffic Operations Management (Citom) has arrested eight of the 45 drivers who were issued a bench warrant last Monday.

Two are drivers of private vehicles while the rest are jeepney drivers, said Citom’s operations division head Joy Tumulak.

To avoid any jail time, Tumulak said the eight drivers settled and paid the P2,000 penalty, as provided for by the Cebu City Traffic Code.

He said the drivers will have to go to court and execute an affidavit of desistance so the bench warrant against them will be dismissed.

He said Citom and the Cebu City Police Office are working together to locate the other

37 drivers.

He said they have already formed two teams--one for the north district and one for the south district--to go after them.

Each team, he said, has five to six individuals that are composed of Citom personnel and policemen.

Municipal Trial Court in Cities Branch 1 Judge Monalila Tecson had issued the warrant against the 45 drivers for failing to settle their traffic violations after being issued citation tickets.

Tumulak said they’ve asked the Land Transportation Office (LTO) not to renew the license of erring drivers who fail to settle their obligations with Citom.

Tumulak said they will be sending the names of the erring drivers to LTO.
