Fernandez denies PBA coaching stint

PHILIPPINE basketball legend Ramon “El Presidente” Fernandez denied a report saying he received offers from Blackwater Sports team owner Dioseldo Sy to become a part of the team when it debuts in the PBA in November.

Fernandez, who attended the Pagpupugay sa 100 Years of Philippine Sports’ gala night last Thursday at the Resorts World Manila, exchanged pleasantries with Sy where they were kidding about a comeback.

“Kumedya-kumedya ra to namo. Comeback ako gusto but gi pick-up man sa writer tingali sa among tapad,” Fernandez told Sun.Star Cebu.

However, Fernandez did not rule out the possibility of having to work with Blackwater.

“Si Leo Austria ang head coach nila (Blackwater). Training their big men is an option. I don’t want to be based in Manila anymore. Two days a week is a workable option,” Fernandez added.

The 4-time PBA MVP and the league’s all-time leading scorer and rebounder, is currently working with Dr. Rhoel Dejaño in his efforts to be prepared for his upcoming project.

“I’ll be starting a big man’s camp soon. Nagpakondisyon usa ko. I’m training now for two already under Dr. Dejaño,” he continued.

Blackwater Sports is among the three expansion teams of the PBA for next season.

The other two include Kia Motors where boxing superstart Manny Pacquiao will be coaching and PBA D-League winningest team NLEX Road Warriors. (RCM)
