Compostela dance group bags ‘Bangga sa Sayaw’ grand prize

A MEDLEY of Pinoy dances with a modern twist of hip-hop presented by a group from Barangay Poblacion, Compostela town, Cebu won the grand prize in Sun.Star Bisdak Magasin Bangga sa Sayaw Cebu Edition 2015 held at the Enan Chiong Activity Center, City of Naga, Cebu last Saturday night.

The 10-member group took home P50,000 cash, a trophy and Globe/TM jackets.

The group from Barangay Pajo, Lapu-Lapu City settled for second place, with P30,000 cash, while Barangay Capitol Site, Cebu City won third place, with P20,000 cash.

Fourth place was won by Barangay Tisa, Cebu City, while Barangay Poblacion, Madridejos, Bantayan Island grabbed the fifth place. Both winners received P5,000 cash.

Genesis Matas, 21, dance group leader of Poblacion, Compostela, said he was grateful that all their efforts in coming up with a unique presentation paid off when they grabbed the grand prize.

“Gusto namo man gud nga malahi ug dili mawala ang atong kultura busa nakahukom mi pagdala sa ethnic nga sayaw uban sa moderning tuis (We want to present a different production without having to leave behind our culture that’s why we decided to feature the ethnic dance with a modern twist),” said Matas.

He said that his group started only a year ago but it became easy for them to learn the dance steps as many of them are choreographers.

“Dili ko maglisod kay ang tanan motampo sa ilang (It was easy for me because all the group members will share their) choreography,” he said.

The reach of the third Sun.Star Bisdak Magasin Bangga sa Sayaw was extended to Cebu Province. The first and second Bangga sa Sayaw were centered in Metro Cebu only.

With the support of the sponsors, the dance contest is a promotional campaign for Bisdak Magasin, which is one of the products of Sun.Star Publishing Inc. Rolando R. Morallo of Bisdak Magasin
