Echalico tops SM to SM run

MICHAEL Jan Echalico clocked one hour, 11 minutes and nine seconds to rule the 21K event of the SM to SM Color Fun Run held Sunday in an out-and-back course from SM City Davao Sunday.

Echalico, who received P10,000 worth of gift certificates, bested fellow Davao City bet Elmer Bartolo and Genus Malacora who finished second and third, respectively. Bartolo timed 1:15:59 to settle for the P7,000 runner-up prize while Malacora registered 1:25:42 to take home P3,000 from the event organized to raise funds to build houses for Typhoon Yolanda survivors in the Visayas Region.

Special prizes went to Roldan Pantanosas (14:41) in the run with pet category while Edgar Vocal and son (25:04) was cited in the father-and-son event and the Quitong couple (30:05) outshone their rivals in the couple's category.

University of Mindanao's be-medaled trackster Sonny Wagdos and Emar Human and Environmental College's Diana Mae Memoracion stamped their respective rivals to rule the 5K division.

Wagdos checked in at 17:09 to race past Julieh Quere (18:42) and Licong Aboyme (19:55) in the men's event while Memoracion finished in 20:54 over Judy Wee (29:33) and Daisy Macareza (31:15) in the distaff side.

In 3K, Antonio Ibaguio, Jr. (11:09) outran Frederick Cabanig (12:17) and Zaldy Gabuna (12:56) for the male crown while Dyna Rose Jaro (12:41) clinched the female title at the expense of Junalyn Dorado (13:10) and Pia Suarez (15:50).

All top three finishers of 5K and 3K divisions claimed gift certificates worth P5,000, P3,000 and P2,000 in the Yolanda fund-raising activity that was supported by Sun.Star Davao, Edge Davao, Mindanao Times, Coca-Cola, Park Inn by Radisson Davao, ABS-CBN, Happy Lemon, M Magazine, Power Mac Center, Phoenix Petroleum Philippines, Lapanday and LBC.

Vantage Sports Promotions handled the technical side of the race that drew a total of 1,100 participants.
