TWO Sundays ago, we heard Catholic Mass at the Queen of Peace Church (more known as Hua Ming). In that afternoon mass, we saw Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. seated in one of the pews, hearing mass alone.

Minutes later, two young boys looking like they were the traditional watch-your-car boys along the city streets, sat beside the Governor. It was nice to see that the bodyguard was unmindful though surely watchful of the scenario. We could see the Governor talking to the boys, whispering words of advice maybe and then it seemed like he took a piece of paper and pen and gave it to the boys who wrote probably their names.

The Governor’s act impressed us that he never showed an air of arrogance or indifference being the leader of this province of Negros Occidental. Humility is one we could see in the provincial dad’s face and action. The two boys took communion and still remained with the Governor. Kudos to you Gov!

A friend told this writer that he was invited to go to a residence at Palmas del Mar in Barangay Singcang-Airport only to be disgusted with the governance of that barangay.
Concrete and semi-concrete but permanent structures were standing on both sides of the road making the passage way narrow and hazardous. He wondered why the leaders of Barangay Singcang-Airport tolerate such a barriotic act in their community.

He asked and was told that it is Barangay Captain Distrito who leads the community and it is doubtful as to whether the barangay head has seen those illegal structures or he does not care at all, he said. It is a shame for Bacolod City that a tourism destination like Palmas del Mar stands proud to be a place of comfort yet the road leading to that place is a clear sign of neglect and discomfort.

The disgusted domestic tourist said he will never go back to that place again as long as the leaders maintain such an embarrassing management of that barangay. Marikina City Mayor Bayani Fernando then told his fellow mayors, “Huwag kayong matakot na ipatupad ang batas; Hindi kayo mawawalan ng boto; lalong madagdagan ang inyong boto kapag nakita ng mamamayan na ang kabutihan nila ay inyong pinapatupad.”

This poor governance as shown in this road management is a clear picture that city life has gone down the drain allowing the barriotic way of life in the rural communities to dominate the city life. Disgusting, indeed.
