City asked: Help us pay rent, bills

THE Cebu City Medical Center (CCMC) College of Nursing has asked the City Government to set aside more than half a million so they can continue using a space at the College of Technological Sciences (CTS) as temporary classrooms and offices.

The CCMC College of Nursing has been staying in the CTS after the city hospital was declared unsafe for occupancy after it was badly damaged by the 7.2-magnitude quake on Oct. 15, 2013. The hospital facility has already been demolished and the City will be building a new one starting next month.

In a letter to Mayor Michael Rama, CCMC College of Nursing Dean Vicenta Jaluague said they need a total of P637,470 to cover their expenses for the months of June to December this year.

Of the total amount, P547,570 will be needed for the space rental at CTS, or P91,245 per month. About P60,000 will be needed for the power bills, or P10,000 per month, and P30,000 to cover the water consumptions, or at P5,000 per month.

Rate

The monthly rate quoted by Jaluague is the rate that was given to her by CTS’ executive assistant to the vice president Ana Lou Navaja.

According to Jaluague, CCMC College of Nursing wants to pay their obligations as early as possible because CTS has allowed them to use the building for a long time already.

“The college is very grateful that the management of CTS allowed us to use a space of their building to serve as temporary classrooms and offices. Definitely, the new CCMC building will not be completed yet by December 2014, the undersigned would like to express her intention to extend the use of the classrooms and offices at CTS for a fee,” said Jaluague.

During their regular session last week, the City Council tackled Jaluague’s letter and referred the matter to the committee on budget and finance and the City’s local finance committee for their report and recommendation.
