News of her death

Joy Tumulak, City Traffic Operations Management (Citom) operation chief, said her family informed his office around 6 p.m. last Monday.

Driver Jose Maghanoy, 47, will be facing a case of reckless impudence resulting to homicide with physical injuries and damage to property.

Tumulak said that in their initial investigation, Cabanero only suffered minor injuries.

It wasn’t until yesterday that they discovered that her head was severely affected by the accident.

The incident happened around 11:30 a.m. and Cabanero reportedly died three hours later.

Aside from Cabanero, six others were hurt during the incident, including five elementary students.

The students were Emmanuel Luciano, 11; Jasper Ian Gelimer, 10; Andrea Limpot, 11; Diane Hijara, 13; and Lyka Econas, 11.

Bonifacio Papellero, a resident of Lapu-Lapu City, was also hit and suffered severe leg injuries.

Maghanoy said he was slowing down as he approached the stoplight on V. Rama corner M. Velez St. when his steering wheel suddenly swerved to the right before he could hit the brakes.

He first hit Papellero who was sitting on his parked motorcycle before the jeepney crashed into the pedestrian lane where the other victims were waiting for a ride.

The jeepney only stopped when it hit the back of a sedan.
