This is the first endeavor of Sonshine Sports Management, a management group that will not only support boxing but also other sports like junior golf, among others."

Aldevera, for her part, said they want to promote the boxers through the international TV channels of Pastor Apollo C. Quiboloy, "to promote the popularity and marketability of these boxers through Sonshine Media Network International. Maging popular sila, mastataas ang kanilang marketability."

Piñol also said Quiboloy's involvement in sports promotion is in preparation for the launching of a Philippine Sports Channel sometime in August that will feature only sports programs.

Piñol, however said, "There is not a lot of money here but we give the Filipino athlete his due and income for the efforts and sacrifices he makes. Sa tinuod lang luoy ang boksingero. Three months mag train para sa gamay nga kitaon P4,000 sa four-round bout. Dili gusto si Pastor Quiboloy ana. Gusto niya maski doblehon o triplehon pa (Boxers train for three months and earn P4,000 for a four-round bout. The Pastor doesn't want that. He wants it doubled or tripled)."

The upcoming boxing event will benefit the Cor Jesu Law College Bar Examination Operation 2014.

Piñol also bared that North Cotabato's Edrin Dapudong will defend his International Boxing Organization super flyweight title against Lwandile Sityatha of East London, South Africa on July 18.

Bigger

Quiboloy's Sonshine Sports Management, according to Piñol, is all set to stage bigger sporting events within the next two years.

He said, "Bigger events, bigger than you could ever imagine. But we are just starting to build the house. In the next 18 to 24 months, makurat ang Davao (Davao will be surprised) with the projects that Sonshine Sports Management will implement. We believe these will bring Davao to the world sports map."

Quiboloysi building a 65,000-seater King Dome, which Aldevera, said may be finished by the end of 2016.

Piñol said with the new facility, originally designed as a Cathedral for Quiboloy's followers, they may even bid hosting of world boxing championships and other sporting spectacles in the future.

The sports management also plans to hold a national junior golf tournament as they want to produce more pro golfers from the grassroots.

"Kadaghanang pro golfers come from Davao. Breeding ground ang city ngmga professional golfers the likes of Cassius Casas and Tony Lascuña (Most professional golfers in the country come from Davao which is known to be a breeding ground of pro golfers like Casas and Lascuña)."

Casas made history in Philippine golf having made a debut in the Masters, considered as the Olympics in golf. But Pñol said, "Kulang sya sa exposure ug sa suporta. Through Sonshine Sports Management, naa nay na identify na mga bata na masuportahan. Kadaghanan mga anak sa mga caddie.

With this program, with natural talent and proper skills, possible maka produce ta ug Pinoy nga mudula sa PGA Tour (Casas lacked exposure and support. With the management, we have identified kids, mostly children of caddies, to be supported in this program that aims to produce a Filipino in the PGA Tour)."

Jungolfers in the Sonshine management will avail of scholarships.

"This is going to take some time, maybe in five to 10 years, a Filipino golfer will play in the PGA. We have to start now," Piñol added. (With Karlo R. Pates)
