Present study on Banago port, PPA told

BACOLOD City Vice Mayor Greg Gasataya said on Tuesday that the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) should present to the City Council a study relative to the re-operation of the Banago port and the viability of operating two ports in the city.

He said the City Council needs the study to guide them in their decision whether to grant port zone delineation rights for Banago port following the approval of such by the City Development Council.

The Barangay Council of Banago has submitted its approved resolution expressing its opposition on the possible development of Banago port should the PPA is given by the City Council the port zone delineation rights.

Gasataya said the Barangay Council has expressed concern that if there will be reclamation works, many of the informal settlers will be affected and dislocated.

He added that for now, the discussions run on assumptions and therefore the PPA study is necessary for everyone to be informed on what are the development programs of PPA at Banago port.

“Should the Banago and Bredco ports operate together? Will it be viable and for how long?” asked Gasataya.
