THE Philippine National Police (PNP) created two new strategic thrusts to enhance the anti-criminality campaign in the country, Local Government Secretary Manuel Roxas II said Wednesday.
In a media briefing held in Camp Crame, Roxas said that first on the strategic thrust is the visibility, wherein there would be additional police forces on the streets who will conduct random checkpoints.
The second is the focus investigation, where a team will look into a major crime, he said.
At present, there are 38 checkpoints in the National Capital Region (NCR) each day. Roxas said the 38 checkpoints will be doubled in the first two weeks and will be tripled on the third and following weeks.
"Random ito, hindi pwedeng at a certain place doon lagi 'yung check point kasi hindi magiging effective 'yun dapat iba-iba at random," he said.
Also part of the visibility strategic thrust is the "Oplan Lambat/Katok" where the police on streets will conduct random inspection on the motorcycles parked on the streets, particularly those without plate numbers.
Recently, series of slay cases occurred in the country where suspects are on-board motorcycles.
PNP Director General Alan Purisima said Oplan Lambat was field tested in the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) from June 2 to 14 wherein result showed its effectivity.
QCPD Director Richard Albano said there were 993 reported crimes in Quezon City in May but it significantly decreased after the Oplan Lambat took effect.
"From June 2 to 14, 113 ang reported crimes sa QC which shows na effective talaga itong ganitong sistema," he said.
"Dun sa focus investigation one team is to one major crime unit, sila 'yung tututok dun sa kaso hanggang sa ma-solve na," said Roxas.
The PNP identified murder and homicide as major crime units.
The plan will initially take effect in the NCR and will be disseminated throughout the country afterwards.
In an interview, NCRPO chief Carmelo Valmoria said the plan is "attainable" with more than 19,000 police forces deployed in the NCR.
"Commitment, that is the number one characteristics na dapat paigtingin natin sa ating mga kapulisan. Sa ganoong paraan mas magiging epektibo pa ang pag maintain natin ng peace and order sa kamaynilaan at ganun din sa buong bansa," he said.
On June 19, the PNP Command Group, Director Staff, Regional Directors and Directors of National Support Units will have another Command Conference to talk about the two new strategic thrust. (Sunnex)
