Joel Torre, Angeli Bayani win Urian trophies

SEASONED actor Joel Torre once again bagged a major acting trophy while Lav Diaz's film "Norte, Hangganan ng Kasaysayan" took home most of the awards at the 37th Gawad Urian.

Held Tuesday evening at Dolphy Theater in ABS-CBN Compound, Quezon City, the most prestigious award-giving body in the country, organized by the Manunuri ng Pelikulang Pilipino and the Film Development Council of the Philippines, honored the best films and performances of the past year.

Torre was named Best Actor for "On The Job" while Angeli Bayani took home the Best Actress award for "Norte, Hangganan ng Kasaysayan".

To recall, both films were screened last year at the Cannes Film Festival in France.

Meanwhile, television actress Angel Aquino and Junjun Quintana bagged the Supporting Actor awards for their performances in "Ang Huling Chacha ni Anita" and "A Philippino Story," respectively.

Hannah Espia won Best Director for "Transit," making her the third woman, after ace directors Laurice Guillen and the late Marilou Diaz-Abaya, to bagged the award.
