Road accident kills finalist of Sinulog Idol

A SINULOG idol finalist was killed, while another one was injured in a road accident on C. Padilla St. in Barangay Duljo-Fatima, Cebu City at 6:40 p.m. Tuesday.

Sheila Mae Bucog, 18, who was this year’s Sinulog Idol first runner-up, died on the spot after a Suzuki multicab hit her while she was standing on the roadside waiting for a ride home in Laray, Barangay Inayawan.

The multicab was driven by Allan Villarin, 37, who was on his way home in Duljo-Fatima.

According to the investigation of PO2 Wilfredo Capireda Jr. of the Cebu City Traffic Section, the accident happened after Villarin allegedly lost control of his multicab.

He tried to avoid the motorcycle traveling ahead of him but failed. The multicab continued its speed and hit Bucog before ramming into an electrical post.

Leobena Carpentero Marine, 25, who was the passenger of the motorcycle, suffered minor injuries and was brought to the Vicente Memorial Medical Center.

Charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and damage to properties will be filed against Villarin.(Nheru Veraflor, USJ-R Mass Comm Intern)
