Erring policemen up for ‘rehab’

POLICEMEN in Cebu City who are often late or absent, obese, have misbehaved or been charged with previous cases, will be pulled out from their stations to undergo training.

Cebu City Police Office Director Noli Romana said this is to “rehabilitate” the police who were charged with misdemeanor or are not physically fit.

At least three to five policemen from every police station will undergo training, depending on the recommendation of the station chiefs.

The training will run for 45 days. These will include lectures on how to be physically fit and proper police actions.

The training stemmed from reports by mountain barangay officials of the alleged involvement of some personnel of the Talamban Police Station in illegal drugs.

“I decided that instead of focusing on them, why not include all the police that have misdemeanors, to put them on the right track,” Romana told Sun.Star Cebu.

He said the training will include policemen who are obese even if they have clean records.

“Kasali yung obese kasi the purpose of our training is not just to improve police actions, but also to improve how they look (We include those who are obese),” the CCPO director added.

As of yesterday, Romana said they are still planning the seminar’s venue. He said they already submitted a request to the Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 and also proposed it during the Cebu City Peace and Coordinating Council (PCAC) meeting.

Aside from lectures, the chosen policemen will be involved in community work as part of their physical exercise.

The training will start next month. The recommended policemen will be temporarily moved from their post in the different police stations and will be replaced by other personnel.

Just in time for the seminar, some 200 police personnel sent by Camp Crame will be deployed in the CCPO.
