Soldier survives collision, another dies

ONE person died while a soldier was wounded in two separate vehicular accidents in the province of Zamboanga del Sur, the police reported Friday.

Killed was Jiv Boy Acas, 25, a resident of Dumalinao, Zamboanga del Sur, while wounded was Rey Lucasan, 26, of the Army's 35th Infantry Battalion.

Acas was driving a motorcycle when he collided head-on with a military-type jeep owned by the Dumingag town driven by Police Officer 1 (PO1) Mydell Pacalioga around 4 p.m. Thursday along the national highway in the village of Balintawak, Pagadian City.

The police said that Acas was rushed to the Pagadian Doctors Hospital but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physicians.

Pacalioga voluntarily surrendered to the Pagadian City police while the vehicle he was driving was impounded, the police said.

Lucasan, on the other hand, was driving the motorcycle when he collided with a heavy equipment (backhoe) driven by Bobby Sumapong, 34, around 7:40 p.m. Wednesday along the national highway in Barangay Gabunon, Tambulig, Zamboanga Del Sur.

Lucasan, who sustained injuries, was admitted at the Blancia Hospital in Molave, Zamboanga del Sur, the police said. (Bong Garcia)
