Cabbie foils robbery, shoots suspect

A TAXI driver was robbed at gunpoint in Barangay Cadulawan, Minglanilla, Cebu last Friday but managed to get the upper hand, leaving a suspected robber injured.

Armando Erocido, 32, of Ken Taxi shot Raymond Palma, 16, of Barangay Kamagayan, Cebu City after he got hold of the firearm.

Chest wound

PO2 Nikki Carlo Plarisan of Minglanilla Police Station said Palma, a native of Ormoc, Leyte, sustained a gunshot wound in the chest.

Palma is undergoing treatment at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City.

Initial investigation revealed Palma and his cohort identified as a certain Ronald flagged the taxi in Cebu City and asked to be taken to Minglanilla.

Palma was seated beside the driver while Ronald was behind him.

When they reached the mountain barangay of Cadulawan, the two men declared a holdup, with Ronald poking a gun at Erocido.

They divested the driver of his earnings worth P500.

But Erocido was able to snatch the firearm from Ronald. The robbers fled the area and were shot by Palma from behind.

Denial

Some residents heard the gunfire and called police to report the incident.

Palma told police he didn’t know about Ronald’s plan and was only shocked when the latter poked a gun at the driver.

Plarisan said they are looking for Ronald, who reportedly lives in Barangay Pardo, Cebu City.

Complaints of robbery will be filed against the suspects tomorrow. <>(DSM)
