Bacolod chess qualifying for Batang Pinoy slated

THE best chess players to don Bacolod City’s colors in the upcoming 2014 Batang Pinoy Visayas Leg in August will participate in a qualifying tournament to be staged on July 5 and 6 at the Liga ng mga Barangay hall at San Juan St., Bacolod City.

Open to both public and private schools in the city as well as the out-of-school youth, the categories will be U12 (boys and girls) and U15 (boys and girls).

The champion will receive P1,000, a medal, a certificate and the right to play for Bacolod City in the Batang Pinoy Visayas Leg; first runner-up, P 800 plus medal and certificate; second runner-up, P500 plus medal and certificate; and two consolation prizes.

Registration fee is P75.

The competition is being supported by the National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) in its identification of the next chess champions in the country.

The tournament is spearheaded by the Bacolod Chess Association headed by NCFP-Bacolod City Coordinator James Toga alongside Bacolod City Sports Office headed by Aurelio Puentevella in cooperation with the Department of Education-Division of Bacolod under City Schools Superintendent Gemma Ledesma, NCFP-Visayas headed by Bayan Muna Rep. Neri Colmenares and Association of Barangay Captains President Noli Villarosa.
