Palace: President not missing in action

WHILE President Benigno Aquino III could not be seen in public lately, he is not missing in action amid the rising prices of goods and recent spate of killings, a Palace official said Monday.

Presidential Spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said that the Chief Executive has his daily activities and members of the Malacanang Press Corps are aware of his schedules.

"For the information of the public, ang schedule po ng ating Pangulo ay nilalahad po at nilalabas sa mga miyembro ng Malacanang Press Corps. So alam po ng ating mga kasama sa media dito sa Malacanang Press Corps kung ano ang pang-araw-araw na aktibidades ni Pangulong Aquino. So he's not missing in action," he said in the regular media briefing.

Lacierda said it just happened that recently Aquino has no public engagements.

"But he is in the office. You all know the schedule of the President, he meets with various Cabinet officials, he meets various personalities, focusing on the daily business of governance," he said, adding that the public could view the President's activities from the Official Gazette orgov.ph.

"So let me assure you that the President, while he may not be seen publicly, the President is engaged and occupied in the daily business of governance," he said.

A columnist has criticized Aquino as the public has not heard anything from him recently, especially now that prices of goods have been rising and after the high profile killings of some individuals, such as a car racer and a businessman. (SDR/Sunnex)
