Janno Gibbs tries hand at drama in new series ‘My BFF’

JANNO Gibbs said his passion for acting is very much alive and he is more than excited for his reunion project with on-screen leading lady, Manilyn Reynes.

It was only in June of last year when the singer became visible again on television. He joined concert program "Sunday All Stars" and did "Pyra: Ang Babaeng Apoy" and "Paraiso Ko'y Ikaw".

Starting June 30, Gibbs is back again in acting in the newest GMA-7 drama series "My BFF," opposite Reynes.

"Very positive ako ngayon. I think everything is timing. Unti-unti dumarami yung binibigay ng GMA and mas ginaganahan ako. Mas nagiging excited ako, pati sa paggawa ng theme songs. Excited ulit ako," he said during the show's press conference.

Gibbs added that by signing up for this new program, he gets to explore new avenues in acting.

"Marami pa akong kakainin pagdating sa drama. I'm very conscious kasi hindi ko linya ito kaya kailangan ko ng tulong talaga ni Manilyn, ng direktor at mga co-stars ko. I always talk to the director and the creative team. I tell them if I have issues with the new script or kung may suggestions din ako."

But more than anything, the singer/actor said he's looking forward to rekindling his on-screen chemistry with Reynes.

He said this is the right project to revisit and rediscover the good old magic of their iconic love team back in the 80s.

"Selfish ako pagdating sa Janno-Manilyn tandem. Special siya for me kasi doon ako nag-start, doon ako unang nakilala as partner din ni Manilyn. I'm just looking for the right project," he said.

"This time perfect yung story for us sa pagbabalik tambalan namin. Andoon yung nagustuhan ng fans namin before, yung cute, patawa, andito and may bonus na drama," he added.

In "My BFF," Janno plays the estranged husband of Manilyn. They will later find their way back to each other through the help of their daughter Rachel, played by Mona Louise Rey.

Child star Jillian Ward is also back and will join the program.

When asked on the performances of Rey and Ward, he replied: "Pagdating sa drama, beterano pa yung dalawang bata kesa sa akin. I've never been known as a dramatic actor because comedian ako. In a sense, senior sila sa akin pagdating acting."

"They are both very good and magkaiba yung style nila. Si Jillian is very energetic and outspoken but Mona is the quiet one but meron siyang kanyang style," he added.

Gibbs added that he is proud of this project as it will not only tackle family drama, but also features caliber actors of the industry.
