565 register in Abra jobs fair

BANGUED, Abra -- A total of 565 job seekers in Abra registered in the annual Provincial Jobs Fair held recently, sponsored by the Provincial Government with the Department of Labor and Employment and the Public Employment Service Office in the municipalities.

Based on the report of Dole Provincial Director Apollo Luspian, a total of 3,825 job vacancies were made available to the jobseekers, of which 2,197 were offered by the 12 local agencies and 1,628 vacancies for overseas employment offered by the seven overseas employment agencies.

Most of the job vacancies were on sales and technical work both for the overseas and local agencies, while the vacancies for domestic help were offered by the overseas employment agencies.

No applicant was hired on the spot, but many have been considered for interview after the initial screening carried out by the PESO managers and the employers who were represented during the Fair.

In her message during the formal opening of the event, Vice Governor Rosario Bersamin advised the job seekers to be careful in choosing a job they would apply as she quoted a famous Confucian line that goes in part, "chose a job that love and you would not work a day in your life…" so that when you start looking for a job in the shopping area, you don’t just pick anything that is offered even if it is not in line with your skills or interest.

Another job fair will be held July for the 27th anniversary of the Cordillera Administrative Region that will be hosted by the province of Abra. (Maritess Beñas)
