A LAWYER and a security guard were killed in a 13-hour hostage crisis inside a commercial building in San Juan City on Tuesday.
Police Officer Louie Orani of San Juan police said the victim identified as Solomon Condonuevo, 65, a lawyer, was shot in the head by his hostage-taker identified as Charlimaine Aton, 35, a security guard.
Aton shot himself with the .38 caliber pistol after killing Condonuevo.
Condonuevo was declared dead on arrival at San Juan De Dios hospital.
A heated argument between the lawyer the security guard led to a hostage situation. "Wala pang nakakapagsabi kung ano 'yung pinaguusapan nila at nauwi sa ganun," Orani said.
Orani said the hostage crisis started around 7 p.m. of Monday in Baranggay Balumbato, San Juan City.
He said Aton refused to surrender as the negotiators were not able to give his demand, which is to contact his ex-girlfriend Luz Robles.
Negotiators told Aton that Robles was already in Mindanao and they could not contact her. Condonuevo's family were on the site to help in the negotiation but the gun-wielding suspect refused to surrender.
"Nung sunabi 'yun na hindi nga maipapakausap sakanya 'yung girlfriend niya doon na siya lalong nag-amok at 'yun narinig na namin 'yung mga putok ng baril," the police officer said. (Sunnex)
