Iloilo dam project finally endorsed

THE Iloilo City Council finally endorsed the National Irrigation Administration’s (NIA) Jalaur River Multi-purpose Project Stage 2 (JRMP II).

City Councilor RLeone Gerochi of the Committee on Environmental Protection said the project costs some P11.2 billion and is considered as the biggest dam outside of Luzon.

Gerochi said the dam is beneficial to Iloilo City due to its bulk water and energy supply components.

He added that Corsiga earlier said that although the city has no more agricultural area, city residents can benefit from the project for its projected additional 35,000 liters per day and from the projected 6.6 megawatts power supply. [Read the related story here]

The project is expected to generate a total of 9,500 additional hectares for irrigation services and rehabilitate 22,000 hectares of existing service areas.

Gerochi is hoping the endorsement of Iloilo City will start the immediate implementation of JRMP II.
