Village official shot

A BARANGAY official was wounded in a gun attack in a remote village in the province of Zamboanga del Norte, the police reported Tuesday.

Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula (PRO-9) spokesman Senior Inspector Joseph Ortega said the incident took place around 9:18 p.m. Sunday in the village of Diland, Mutia, Zamboanga del Norte.

Ortega identified the victim as Allan Barlaan, 42, a village councilor of Dilang, Mutia municipality.

Ortega said that investigation showed Barlaan was about to enter his residence when an unidentified gunman appeared and shot the victim.

Ortega said the suspect fled on foot while the victim was admitted at the Jose Rizal Memorial Hospital in Dapitan City.

Investigation continues to unmask the gunman, Ortega said.
