Ecozone to privatize income-generating facilities

THE Zamboanga City Special Economic Zone and Freeport (Zamboecozone) is privatizing the operations of its income-generating facilities.

Zamboecozone Chairman and Administrator Christopher Lawrence Arnuco said among the income-generating facilities to be privatized are the swimming pools, zipline, condotels, bowling and other recreational facilities.

Arnuco said the privatization of the facilities is to enable them to focus on labor intensive enterprises since the responsibility of the Zamboecozone is to look for business locators and not to manage business.

Arnuco said the decision to privatize the income-generating facilities was decided by the Zamboecozone Board through a resolution approved last Saturday.

He said the facilities will be opened for bidding to interested parties soon and the privatization will be implemented before the end of the year.

He foresees an increase in the number of locators once the facilities will be privatized since they could focus on scouting for business locators.

At present there are 15 locators operating inside the Zamboecozone located at Sitio San Ramon in the village of Talisayan, west of this city. (Bong Garcia)
