THE biggest in four years.
The organizers of the Cebu Landmasters St.Ignatius Run promise that their fourth edition set on July 13 will be the biggest ever when it hits the streets at the South Road Properties near the San Pedro Calungson Templete.
The event is organized this year by the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) Alumni Batch 1989 and is held every July in celebration of the feast of St. Ignatius.
This year’s run will have a 21K. It will also have the 6K tandem and 12K relay. These categories will go along with the usual 3K, 6K, and 12K, which will have the open and students/alumni divisions.
The 12K relay, however, will only be open to alumni and students. The 6K tandem requires at least one student or alumni to be able to compete in the duo footrace.
One of the organizers, Bernard Sia, said this will be a bigger and better run compared to the previous three events.
“This year, we will be more open to the public. The previous races were more of an activity for the alumni and students,” Sia said.
“We are hopeful that this will be the best Ignatius Run. The vision is to have a home for those who are building our future leaders,” said Franco Soberan, SHS-ADC Alumni Association President.
Parts of the proceeds this year will be used for the benefit of SHS-ADC Alumni Association Projects and the construction of ADC Teachers’ Dormitory. Over the years, their alumni association has been also active in building Kalinga Homes, school buildings and assisting in the typhoon Yolanda and earthquake victims.
The organizers said this will be a safe and smooth race since the south-bound lane of SRP will be closed starting 12 midnight until 9 a.m on race date. With the addition of the 21K, the new venue and opening the event to the public, they decided to tap veteran technical race director Joel Juarez of Coco Running to handle the event.
The students and running enthusiasts, who want to experience the grueling 21K are also encouraged to take part in this event since there is no cut-off time to finish. There are also 14 water stations set up during the race.
More than 3,000 runners are expected to join with majority of that number are expected to come from the students and alumni.
A total of P20,000 worth of cash and trophies are at stake for the top three winners in all the categories—except the 3K which is set as a pure fun run.
The registration fee is at P700 for the 21K; P600 for the 12K; P450 for the 6K, P400 for the 3K; the 12K relay team of four is pegged at P1,500; while the 6K duo is at P800. These are inclusive of race bib and singlet.
The registration is on-going at The Planet Sports or The Athletes Foot in Ayala Center Cebu, SHS-ADC Alumni office, Coffeecat in JP Morgan I.T. Park, Cebu Bionic Builder Supply, Inc in Magallanes, Cebu Home & Builders at AS Fortuna, Parkmall Lobby, and online registration is at store.aktib.ph/shop. RSC
