A MOTORCYLE crashed into a police vehicle Tuesday night on Cabancalan St., Talamban, Cebu City.

According to the Cebu City Police Office, the accident happened around 10:20 p.m. with P01 Marcon Magnanao, 30, driving the police car towards ML Quezon Ave. to conduct a checkpoint.

He was hit by the motorcycle driven by Silverio Cuyos, 30, who had a passenger, 26-year-old April Nachel Cayro.

Chief Investigator PO3 Edgar Baton said the police car was in the U-turn slot when the motorcycle collided with it.

Cuyos was thrown off his motorcycle and hit Magnanao.

Magnanao was brought to the Visayas Community Medical Center for treatment while Cuyos and Cayro were brought to the Perpetual Succor Hospital.

Police are still investigating the cause of the accident.

But Baton said the lesson is clear that drivers should have focus when driving to avoid accidents.

“Be mindful when driving and always be careful,” he said.

Baton also noted that the accident brings to light the need for a speed gun, which detects the speed of a passing vehicle.

The Cebu City Traffic Operations Management (Citom) has long been planning to purchase speed guns but the lack of budget keeps hampering the plan. John Cavin Sabonsolin, USJ-R Mass Com Intern
