Malacanang shrugs off Santiago’s alleged plan to run as president in 2016

MALACANANG shrugged off Thursday whatever would be announced by Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago next week even if it would be her plan to run for president in 2016 elections.

In a press briefing, Presidential Communications Operations Office Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. said the Aquino administration is focused on governance and on the reforms that it wants to implement.

"Wala po kasi sa aming agenda 'yung pagtingin sa pulitika ng 2016 dahil ang focus po namin ay 'yung sa pagpapatupad ng mga programa sa reporma at 'yung pag-deliver ng mga ipinangako na naaayon sa ating Philippine Development Plan," he said when asked on Palace's thoughts regarding Santiago's alleged plan to run for president in 2016.

He said it would be better to just wait for whatever Santiago would announce and the Palace would respect whatever would be her pronouncement.

Asked if Santiago could be qualified to become the administration Liberal Party's standard-bearer for 2016, Coloma said, "Wala po akong involvement sa ganyang mga proseso at mas mainam po siguro na itanong natin 'yan mismo sa mga opisyal ng Liberal Party."

He also said that the Palace has no hard feelings against Santiago who decided to forego her post as judge of the International Criminal Court (ICC) despite the government's efforts to campaign for her to get the position.
