Ifugao town execs approve pro-environment ordinance

ALFONSO LISTA, Ifugao -- The local government unit has mandated all households in the municipality to practice proper garbage disposal for the protection of the environment and the people as whole.

Recently, municipal officials led by Mayor Glenn Prudenciano and Vice Mayor Joseph Angowan approved an ordinance prohibiting any individual to litter on public and private properties, roads, parks, ditches or other adjoining lands.

The ordinance stated that no person shall deposit, leave, dump or drop any litter within the municipality except in public and authorized private receptacles for collection or in any duly approved waste disposal.

"All individual shall observe proper garbage disposal to prevent litter and owner of any private premises shall at all times maintain the premises free of litter by having authorized receptacles for collection," the ordinance stated.

The municipal law also mandated residences, business establishments and any other entities to be held responsible for the proper segregation, collection, transport, storage, treatment and disposal of solid waste materials or any refuse found within their respective premises.

Meanwhile, the LGU has received the Silver Award on the Seal of Good House Keeping for 2013 in recognition of its effort in advancing the principles of accountability and transparency in Local Governance.
