AS PART of regulating the distribution and sale of butane products within the metropolis, a multi-agency task force will convene and discuss how to distinguish brand new butane products from refilled ones.
Assistant city administrator for administration lawyer Tristan Dwight Domingo said the multi-agency task force, as mandated in Executive Order No. 23 Series of 2014, will determine and pool their resources relative to the proper enforcement of all applicable and existing laws governing flammable and dangerous chemicals and other hazardous and toxic substances.
"It's hard to determine kung kanang ginabaligya ba sa mga sari-sari stores kay refilled products o bag-o gyud na. Wala gyud tay ways to properly police this or properly regulate this sa pagkakaron," Domingo said during the I-Speak Forum held at the City Hall conference room yesterday morning.
Hence, he said one of the primary functions of the multi-agency task force is to recommend and formulate possible initiatives and ordinances relating to handling these products.
"Siguro necessary na gyud to enact an ordinance para ani," Domingo said.
Butane has become a very common commodity today available even in neighborhood sari-sari stores as prices of LPG in big tanks have made these prohibitive to those who can only afford their supplies for the day.
The 17th City Council on Tuesday passed under first reading a proposed ordinance to ban the selling of butane within the metropolis. (ANC)
