A TOTAL of 147 students, teachers and guests joined the start of the two-day 2nd Deped Table Tennis Association of Davao City (Dettadac) Table Tennis Tournament held at San Roque Elementary School gym, Obrero, Davao City yesterday.

Dettadac president and event organizer Friendee L. Nuñez, in an interview with Sun.Star Davao, said the first day event was successful because of the support of different schools.

"Dahil maganda ang kinalabasan ng ating activity ngayong araw, nagsisimula na kaming magplano sa mga susunod pang mga activities na kagaya nito para mas mainvolved pa ang mga bata sa sports," he said.

He said the activity was a perfect training ground for our student-athletes in preparation for the coming schools meets.

San Roque District Department of Education (DepEd) Supervisor Filipinas Samblingo, in a separate interview, said Deped is advocating this kind of sports activity for the students.

"It's a good advocacy for the students to develop not only their academic skills but also their physical skills through sports," she said.

She said it will also give them a chance to compete in the upcoming meets. At least these kids they will be kept away from vices, she added.

Palarong Pambansa table tennis gold medalist Lindy Marie Darlo of Balite Elementary School in Marilog also competed in the tournament which she said serves as a tune-up event for her Kadayawan sa Dabaw stint in August.

The event is organized by San Roque Sports Association together with Dettadac in cooperation with Metro Davao Table Tennis Association (Medatta), Spin Davao, University of South Eastern Philippines (Usep) and Davao City Sports Consumers Cooperative (DCSCC).
