PORAC -- The Municipal Government of Porac has launched a program adopting the Porac portion of the FVR Megadike for greening and cleanliness program.

Porac Vice-Mayor Dexter David said that the program was made possible through the effort of the Department of Agriculture (DA)-Porac Unit headed by Ma. Melba Malit. The program adopts Mega-dike Manibaug Area for continuous tree planting efforts.

The officers and staff of the DA office together with Committee on Agriculture Chairman Rey Lapid also painted concrete road guards, cleaned up the area and planted trees in the vicinity. They pledged to do monthly maintenance on the area.

David said that the area is a perfect place for greening programs. He added that the FVR Megadike's land slope would cater to tree planting events. He said that trees here would be able to grow without much obstruction given the proper care.

"This is our way of transforming this area into a green haven for trees and ornamental plants. Years from now this area would be a green avenue," David added. David added the program to adopt the structure for greening projects would mean the institutionalization of year-round programs for tree planting.

The FVR Megadike is an inter-town facility that served as a reflector dike for the lahar flows from the recent 1991 eruption of Mt. Pinatubo. The structure extends from Porac to the towns of Santa Rita, Bacolor, Minalin, Guagua, Sto. Tomas and Masantol.
