A POLICE officer who figured in a shooting incident that killed a man and wounded another, in Digos City in Davao del Sur is facing dismissal from the service, the Police Regional Office (PRO) Davao Region said.

Senior Police Officer 3 Maxwell Roble, detailed at the Regional Intelligence Division (RID) of the Davao del Sur Provincial Police (DSPPO), allegedly shot dead Joare Villarosa Batulat, 24, around 2:30 a.m. Saturday at Rizal Park. The incident also left Carlo Cansancio wounded.

The Davao del Sur Provincial Office (DSPPO) revealed that Batulat and Cansancio were having a drinking session at the park when Roble appeared and shot them.

Roble was immediately arrested by Army troops belonging to the 39th Infantry Battalion, who were conducting foot patrol in the area.

PRO Davao Region spokesperson Chief Inspector Jed Clamor, in an interview Monday, said Roble will be dismissed if the investigating bodies found him guilty of the crime. He added that the local police is still conducting a thorough investigation on the incident.

Further investigation is being conducted by Digos City Police Office (DCPO) led by Supt. Querubin Manalang under the supervision of DSPPO director Sr. Supt. Michael John Dubria.

"We would like to emphasize that the PRO 11 is impartial to all people who violate the law whether the violator is a civilian or one in uniform. The investigation is to determine the circumstance that led to the shooting," Clamor said.

"Naa man gud ta'y due process na ginasunod. Of course, we need to hear his (Roble) side kung bakit sila umaabot sa ganun. Accordingly, the one of the two victims has a criminal record tapos itong si Roble has been victimized... We need to hear the statement of the accused," Dubria said.

Clamor said the DCPO has already filed murder charges before the City Prosecution Office in Digos on Monday against Roble, adding that the latter is also facing administrative charges for grave misconduct.
