DAVAO City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte said highlight activities during the celebration of 2014 Kadayawan sa Dabaw will be held in broad daylight to ensure the safety of the public amid terror threats in the city and other parts of Mindanao.

This will alsp make sure the crowd will be under the control of the security forces.

Duterte said heightened alert will be implemented within the city to prevent any terrorist attack as warned by President Benigno Aquino and Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Mar Roxas, who visited the city and discussed about the terror threat in the country, particularly in Mindanao.

"We will celebrate during daytime. The liquor ban also stays. It's a law, it stays there. Other activities tapos na by 10 a.m. We can always start early morning and celebrate the whole day," Duterte said.

"Whatever is being implemented now and in the past, eh ganun pa rin. Maybe, we will add something more," he added.

The one-week Kadayawan celebration will kick off with the Pagbukas or the Kadayawan Celebratory Opening Ceremony on August 12 at 5 p.m. at Rizal and Quezon Parks.

Highlight events like Indak-indak sa Kadalanan or Street Dancing and Pamulak or floral float parade will be held on weekends, August 16 and 17, respectively.

Duterte said he is confident that the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) and the Task Force Davao (TFD) will do its part on imposing strict security measures.

"Paparating na ang Kadayawan, let's just hope that everything will be alright at sana naman huwag nila gawin dito," he said, referring to a terroristic group which Roxas and Duterte refused to name.

"We have been reaching out to them ever since and extended our hand of friendship. We will not neglect our duty to protect the people of Davao," Duterte said.

Roxas on Sunday said the alarm was raised in Mindanao because of some intelligence reports that is directed to Davao City, Koronadal, Cagayan de Oro City and Kidapawan.

"We have been through with this kind of situation ever since starting with the bombings in Davao. And if there is a threat, I just call the police and the military at sinasabi ko kayo na bahala," Duterte said.

He said if there is a need to impose martial law-like security, he will order such just to make sure that the public is safe.

"Hindi martial law na tao ang kalaban, pero martial law na yung kalaban ng tao ang hinahanap. It is intended to protect you and your family. Hindi naman kami nandito para pahirapan kayo, pero, pahirapan natin ang ating kaaway," he said.

In a scale of one to ten, Duterte said the terror threat from intelligence community is placed at three. However, he said the response of the government to prevent any attack is at 10.

"I'm satisfied with our security forces here," he said.
