Utzurrum: Anyone for afternoon tea, Zontians?

WHEN president Myrna Cruz Tan of the Zonta Club of Cebu 2 took over the stewardship of the, Club for the Biennium 2012 to 2014, she requested the members to don “summer florals” to create a theme event.

Recently, during her farewell membership meeting, it was just as colorful and creative “High Tea with Hats” affair at the Country Club.

The members gamely responded, and the result was a collection of imaginative headgear: wide-brimmed, beribboned or bedecked with flowers, to fascinators, to what-have-yours!

Of course, these were paired-off with matching attire! Secretly, a couple of judges were scoring which were most “unique” or “interesting.” With prizes too.

And some of the winners were: Mayet Malinao for her “Rabbi-inspired” headgear; Jane Llaban—was that a Martian antenna? And Elsa Basubas for the roaring 20s look! All in fun, ladies!

Still another surprise number, was the video of “Guess Who” or “Remember When.”

Members were asked to submit antique (read as old) photos of themselves: How long ago? Preferably during college or pre-marriage years.

What a revelation when the pictures were flashed on the big screen. Some did not even recognize themselves! Slim or plump. Was that me? A lot of shouts and shocks, but all for laughs and entertainment.

These Zontians really know how to have fun!

“In culmination, the Board of Directors, working closely with president Myrna, had this heartwarming token for her, with the message:

Dear Myrna:

This biennium (2012-2014), under your leadership, the Zonta Cup was filled to overflowing with selfless, passionate and enthusiastic service towards the women in our beloved community. Thank you and Congratulations!

Truly, a well-deserved accolade, considering that the Zonta Club of Cebu 2 during Myrna's presidency was the most awarded club during the Zonta International District Conference in Hong Kong, which was attended by 70 clubs from five countries: Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and the Philippines.

Myrna, doesn’t this say it all?
