New EO addresses worsening traffic

DAVAO City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte signed an executive order creating and organizing a City Transport and Traffic Management Board (CTTMB) and creating an Interim City Transport and Traffic Management Office (CTTMO), which will manage the transport and traffic situation in Davao City.

The Executive Order No. 30, signed by Duterte on June 30, states that the Ordinance No. 0334-12 or "An ordinance for the comprehensive transport and traffic code of Davao City" provides for the creation of the CTTMB which shall have the primary function to provide advice and policy directions to the CTTMO.

“With the growing population, increasing number of vehicles and the fast development currently experienced by the City of Davao, the need to create the CTTMO cannot be understand in order to have a specific office or department which will comprehensively manage the transport and traffic situation all over the city,” the EO reads.

Duterte also said that the Interim CTTMO is responsible to “maintain and transfer the operation performed by offices with functions relating to transportation and traffic” since there is no approved plantilla positions and budget yet for the operating expenses of the CTTMO.

The CTTMB is composed of the city mayor as the chair and the department of the Interim CTTMO as the vice chair.

The head of the Traffic Management Center (TMC) is also the head of the Interim CTTMO.

The CTTMB, on the other hand, is tasked to formulate policies, review, recommend and approve transport and traffic management plans and programs.

The CTTMB and the Interim CTTMO are under the supervision of the Office of the City Mayor.
