THE 17th City Council has approved a total 15 legislations it considers as landmark since its members assumed office in July 2013.
The council defines landmark legislations as ordinances approved that only Davao City has.
A copy of the landmark legislations showed that three were approved this year and 12 were passed last year.
The Davao legislator with the highest number approved is Councilor Bonifacio E. Militar with five, followed by Councilor Tomas J. Monteverde IV with three.
Meanwhile, Councilors Karlo S. Bello, Victorio U. Advincula Jr., Danilo C. Dayanghirang, Maria Belen S. Acosta, Mary Joselle D. Villafuerte, Bernard E. Al-ag, and Leo R. Avila III authored one each.
The first and most popular landmark legislation of the 17th City Council was the amended liquor ban.
Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte said more ordinances are expected to be enacted by the Council on its two remaining years. One of which is the proposal to require cigarette and alcoholic beverages buyers to present their IDs upon buying.
Duterte said the Council was also able to address the problem of the city on real property tax.
The landmark legislations of the 17th City Council this year are:
Ordinance No. 0115-14 or “An ordinance establishing policies, guidelines and rules and regulations for the operation and maintenance of the Pasalubong Center, a tourism-oriented project of the City Government of Davao,” which was enacted on February 18 and authored by Monteverde.
Ordinance No. 0112-14 or “An Ordinance creating the Davao City Physical Fitness and Sports Development Council (DCPFSDC)” by Bello and approved on February 18.
Ordinance No. 0101-14 or “An ordinance to provide additional area of one half hectare out of the city-owned public cemetery at Ma-a for the exclusive use of the Muslim Community as burial site in Davao City and appropriating funds for the construction of its perimeter fence” enacted on January 14 and authored by Militar.
Last year, the Council enacted 12 landmark ordinances, which includes an ordinance for a MOA between the City and the Landbank of the Philippines for livelihood loan facility by Advincula Jr. on December 13, 2013; an ordinance creating the guidelines for a night and weekend street market by Monteverde on December 10, 2013; an ordinance to grant the incentive for all the personnel of the City Government of Davao by Dayanghirang on December 10, 2013; an Ordinance renaming Magsaysay Elementary School to Ramon F. Magsaysay Elementary School by Acosta on December 10, 2013; an ordinance granting incentives to all barangay elected officials after their service by Militar on December 3, 2013; an ordinance for a MOA between the City and Southern Philippines and Medical Center (SPMC) relative to the establishment of a partnership and referral system on outsourced services by Villafuerte on November 12, 2013.
Also, an ordinance allowing St. Peter chapels to operate a Crematorium by Al-ag on November 5, 2013; an ordinance establishing a hostel at the Davao City Overland Transport Terminal by Militar on October 29, 2013; an ordinance imposing parking fees by Militar on October 29, 2013; an ordinance approving the 2013-2016 Disaster Risk Reduction Management Investment Plan by Monteverde on September 24, 2013; an ordinance regulating the use of some streets near the Mintal Public Market by Avila on September 24, 2013; and an ordinance amending the liquor ban by Militar on July 24, 2013.
