THE Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in Davao region reported on Thursday that it completed 21.48 percent of the tourism infrastructure projects for the first half of the year.
The regional office is handling 11 of the 22 tourism road projects in the region. Total amount set for the projects is pegged at P1.406 billion.
There are six infrastructure projects in Davao del Norte, two each in Davao Oriental and Davao City, and one in Davao del Sur.
Projects in Davao del Norte include three projects each for the Circumferential Road in the Island Garden City of Samal (Igacos) and Panabo City Coastal Road.
Igacos Circumferential projects are the P59.195-million project for the Babak-Penaplata section; P120-million project for the Babak-Camudmud-Tagpopongan section (east side) and Catagman-Adecor sections (with exceptions); and P120.805 million-project for the Babak-Camudmud-Tagpopongan section (west side). The projects for the Panabo City Coastal Road are the P78.83-million embankment and gravelling of Taganay Bridge II; P130.949-million construction of Tagunay Bridge I; and P119.215-million upgrading and including the construction of seawall.
Projects in Davao Oriental are the P111.3-million road project at junction La Union-Mt. Hamiguitan road and the P74.38-million project for the highway junction at Santiago-Macopa-Pantad leading to Pusan Point.
Infrastructure projects in Davao City include the P80-million road project along G. Porras and Trade School Drive Bo. Obrero leading to People’s Park and the P289-million project for the Lacson-Lamanan-Inayangan-Megkawayan road leading to Megkawayan Peak.
In Davao del Sur, there is the P202.352-million project for Cogon-Kapatagan-Mainit road leading to Mt. Apo, Camp Sabros, Mt. Apo Highland Resort, and Tadaya Falls.
DPWH regional information officer Jose Dennis Y. Flores said most of the roads already exist and will be upgraded to be wider, thicker concrete roads. Most of the projects are ongoing.
Flores also pointed out that these tourism infrastructure projects are considered as "To Declared Tourism Destinations (TDTD)". There are a total of 22 TDTD projects in the region amounting to P1.899 billion.
