Mayor: No deadline on RPT hike

THE Iloilo City Government does not intend to impose immediately the new schedule on zonal valuation of real properties, and definitely, there is no deadline for real property tax (RPT) increases, Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog said.

The RPT hike is proposed to be implemented by January 2015.

Mabilog said the local businessmen belonging to eight business organizations in Iloilo will have a say and approval of the increases on real properties even if the Department of Finance mandated a new schedule of real property valuation every three years.

The City Government has not imposed the RPT increases in 2009 due to the devastation brought by Super Typhoon Frank, and there were no substantial increases in 2003 until 2013.

Similarly, the city is not for an immediate implementation of the RPT hike. “Indi ta ini pagsakuan and there is no deadline set for schedule of increases,” Mabilog said.

But Mabilog appealed to the businessmen and property owners to pay their RPT increase, even if small, in order to improve city services and programs.

Mabilog said he is inviting the businessmen to sit in a round table discussion with the city’s finance team and the City Council committee on ways and means in a move to come up with a compromise agreement, if possible.
