Engineers vow to finish JRMP II on time

ENGINEERS of the National Irrigation Administration-Western Visayas (NIA-6) have vowed to finish on time the Jalaur River Multi-Purpose Project Stage II (JRMP II) in Calinog, Iloilo province.

During the orientation and consulatation workshop last week, NIA 6 engineers said the project is within the timeline and they are working closely with Korean expert counterparts on the design and modernization plans.

The team is already on the Detailed Engineering Design phase, which is set to be submitted to the Korean Government within August.

JRMP II will feature three dams such as the Jalaur Reservoir, Jalaur Afterbay and the Alibunan Catch Dam, all located at Calinog, Iloilo, and an 81 kilometer highline canal that will traverse 8 municipalities of the province.

The project will have irrigation water system aimed to serve 31,840 hectares and will modernize 22,360 hectares of existing irrigation system throughout the province of Iloilo.

The P11.2-billion project will also provide 17,000 jobs during the construction phase, additional bulk water component for domestic use and power supply component.

NIA 6 regional manager Gerardo Corsiga said they are happy to work on the project for the benefit of Ilonggo farmers.

Korean experts behind the program are engineers Woon-shik, Yo, Seung-Ha, Ryu and Yong Soo Han, among others.
