A sense of ease and casualness

"THE rainy season may have arrived but let’s face it, in a tropical nation a bit of drizzle here and there barely dampens reasons to go for a quick dip, or for others perhaps, to look glam in an eye-catching resort number."

And designer Jerrick Macasocol’s latest swimwear collection achieved such thematic vision. A marriage of violet hues and a summery shade of green, his designs resonate sophistication and at the same time a sense of ease and casualness. The works are bejewelled with what he describes as his signature “theatrical” accents, though just at the right amount not to make it seem flashy.

“The inspiration behind this collection was the different shades of purple, which is my grandmother’s favourite color,” shared Jerrick. Using figure-hugging spandex fabric, he topped it with tiny decorative beads, and then finished the ensembles with flowing cover-ups made of silk.

The first look is a green one-piece swimsuit embellished with butterfly-shaped beads on top and further highlighted with lavender silk as cover-up in a chic asymmetric cut. While the second is a two-piece swimwear with high-waist bottom; its upper part bearing beads texturized with purple acrylic paint, and the lower covered with a silk chiffon skirt that gives it a flowing, bohemian effect.

The collection also introduces a mullet skirt with train-like effect for the ladies, while a lace cover-up in a vibrant tint of green for the guys—both unconventional yet more than anything, striking additions.

One of Cebu’s rising young designers from 2011, Jerrick has since been regarded for his exceptional designs and easily wearable pieces; one of his earliest works a paper couture line with dresses made from paper. He continues the inclination today, saying that what inspire him is easily being able to envision how to make his wearers “look confident and at the same time beautiful.”
