Studio Ghibli allegedly shutting down its operation

ANIME avid fans grieved over possible shutdown of Tokyo-based Studio Ghibli Inc. after its producer Toshio Suzuki's comments on a television series in Japan were misconstrued.

A series of Suzuki's images being featured last Saturday at MBS Jounetsu Tairiku show were uploaded in Tumblr, saying that he allegedly announced the "closure" of the film production. The Japanese subtitle in the images, however, were not translated in English.

Social media users disseminated the anomaly about Ghibli's termination after 29 years of service rendered to the film industry.

Ghibli Studio's success was heightened in June 1985 after the success of Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind by Tokuma Shoten last 1984.

Netizens could not believe that the studio conferred with great anime feature films would cease its operation.

A Twitter user said that there was so much "magic and heart" in Studio Ghibli's films that she could not imagine if the studio would stop producing animated films.

"Studio Ghibli has inspired many, many people. Nothing lives eternally but a legend," a post said, praising the works of Studio Ghibli.

Meanwhile, some tweets said that Studio Ghibli was not yet closing down and the previous reports were only misunderstood.

A twitter user also said that it was just a rumor and not yet confirmed in Japan.

"A follow- up from this morning: Studio Ghibli is not closing, but looking to restructuring (so the comment about temporary closing is right," said a post in Twitter.

Suzuki said in the interview that Ghibli co-founder Hayao Miyazak'’s retirement was quite significant and might cause the production under reconstruction.

Suzuki called the reconstruction of the production as "spring cleaning" or "major cleaning" to make improvements for the benefit of the next generation.

"With that, continuing to endlessly create like this is not impossible, but, once, right about now, we will take a short rest about what's next," Suzuki said. (Ruth Abbey Gita/Sunnex)
