CHO on alert vs rainy season diseases

THE Iloilo City Health Office is on alert against the reemergence of diseases during rainy season.

City health officer Dr. Urminico Baronda said these diseases are influenza, leptospirosis, and dengue.

Baronda said cases of dengue are noted to be decreasing from 1,206 cases recorded from January to July 2013 to some 400 cases noted from January to July 2014. Peak period of the disease is from June to September.

Baronda said environmental cleanliness is a must in every village.

Parents are also advised not to allow their children play in stagnant water to avoid the leptospirosis, spawned by wastes and urine of infected rats and other rodents.

Baronda said the City Health Office has clustered villages to monitor and implement interventions that can prevent the spread of these diseases.

First to be clustered are barangays Sto. Niño Norte, Sto. Niño Sur, Calumpang, and South San Jose.
