THE government announced Tuesday that it has already cancelled the license of Japhil 2000 International Agency Corporation to recruit overseas Filipino workers (OFWs).
In a statement, Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) Administrator Hans Cacdac said the license of Japhil 2000 has been cancelled after finding it liable of numerous recruitment violations.
"The POEA has ordered the cancellation of license of Japhil 2000 for recruitment violations committed to a worker it deployed to Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE)," said Cacdac.
Primarily, the labor official noted that the agency was found liable of collecting a placement fee amounting to P21,100 from OFW Honey Lou Gian for a cleaner job despite having only a monthly salary of P8,000.
Under POEA rules, a recruitment agency may charge and collect from its hired workers as placement fee only for an amount equivalent to one month salary of the worker.
Aside from excessive charging, the agency was also found liable for collecting fees from the worker without issuing an official receipt duly registered with the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR).
Japhil has also been found liable for misrepresentation, said Cacdac.
According to Gian's complaint, he alleged that Charles Sanico, vice-president of the recruitment agency, assured her placement and employment in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, as cleaner in a hospital or hotel with a monthly salary of 1,500 dirhams or approximately P17,250.
However, upon arrival in Dubai, she was made to work in an on-call house cleaning services cleaning three to four residential houses a day, which earned her 700 dirhams a month.
Aside from cancellation of its license, Cacdac also ordered Japhil 2000 and its surety agency to refund to the complainant the amount of P13,100, which it excessively collected from the OFW. (HDT/Sunnex)
