FOR the Kadayawan season, Vikings will infuse new dishes with local savories to their vast offering of cuisines. It’s the “Philippines’ largest buffet restaurant’s” way of dancing to the beat of Mindanao’s biggest festival.

More Pinoy specialties will grace the international spread of the restaurant with a few courses bearing that “distinctively Davao” flavor as Chef Anton tweaks the recipe and seasons the dishes with locally grown ingredients abundant during this time of the year which includes the king of fruits, the durian.

Spiked with Durian are the inihaw dish of Baby Back Ribs in Durian Barbecue Sauce and the suitably sweetened dessert offering of Brazo de Durian. Other “fruity concoctions” landing on the buffet are the must-try Starter dish of Piniritong Lumpiang Tinapa at Mangga, the very tasty Poultry Entrée of Rellenong Manok sa Mangosteen Sauce, and another sweet treat, the Mango Sansrival (which I hope they decide to go easy on the sugar).

Fearless forecast: The Starters that will score points will be the Ensaladang Talong with Malunggay Pesto and the Vikings Special Kinilaw (with tuna, salmon and bagnet mixed with fresh seaweeds). If you love your veggies spicy then the Laing at Tinapa will surely perk you up.

From the Noodle and Rice section, try the Filipino Paella and the Bihod Pasta. The Inihaw section will have the Inihaw na Imbao (choose the smaller meat as the bigger ones might be rubbery). From the Beef/Mutton Entrees, give the Beef Steak Tagalog a try and the Spicy Baked Calderetang Kambing.

Several more dishes like the Balbacua, Pancit Molo, Ginataang Alimango will be served during the food promotion as well.

It’s the season of bountiful harvest for Davao, head to Vikings at SM Lanang Premier from August 11 to 17. If a day is not enough to “harvest” and feast over the new flavors the restaurant added to their buffest spread, then you have every reason to head back. You have an entire week to enjoy the dishes, staple and new.
