Llanes: No Finger Pointing

BEFORE anything else, congratulations and good luck to local folk talent Brix Tan who is set to have his concert on Saturday August 23, 2014 at the fourth floor of the CAP Building with one of the countries folk guru Gary Granada.

Does the city have an erstwhile plan to finally solve our garbage problem?

Well, it will have to be a tandem between the executive and the legislative arm of government. It’s been some time that the city have been delivering our waste materials in Capas, Tarlac, and this accompanied with the huge monetary payment that we have to pay for.

Just this week, our local officials trooped to the municipality of Tuba in Benguet province to determine the possible sanitary landfill area that would help solve our problems on waste. At least we see hope in this move by our loal government officials.

Hmmmm, but why the silence by our local legislators except for one who was elected in the council for being "The Action Man" after a stint as city administrator, who continues to look for solutions to our problem.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not campaigning for him but instead, I encourage you to bring him back to the council in 2016. At least we see a possible future father in this silent but effective councilor.

But enough of the councilors, Mayor Mauricio Domogan is now in the forefront of having to solve our problem on waste management. This after having to experience the trash slide that occurred at Asin road.

The Mayor admits that although our city have increased its budget to a billion coming from earned taxes, the need for having not one, not two, but probably three possible areas near the city where we can bring our waste materials is being looked at.

We have to prepare for this as our city have increased its day time population to guess what, from 25,000 to our present 500,000. Imagine the abundance of trash that we produce from this number of people a day?

Well, no mayor nor legislator can solve this by their own. It has to work both ways. Our local officials and the population must come to terms in settling our waste management problems.

Instead of local party big wigs and incumbent legislators fighting for positional leadership, why don't they center on helping our city resolve its problems on waste?

Probably reconsider the "NO SEGREGATION NO COLLECTION" policy of the city.

And like we said, it's not the Mayor, nor the councilors, nor city officials problem, It is all our problem!
