VILLAGE officials in Balamban town, Cebu requested the Provincial Government to help with road concreting in their communities, particularly in the mountain areas, to easily deliver goods from farms to the town center.

During a consultative meeting held in Balamban, Abucayan Barangay Captain Virgilio Gimena was one of the barangay leaders who asked Vice Gov. Agnes Magpale, Provincial Board members and department heads to help the town in concreting the barangay roads.

The Municipality of Balamban has an existing road concreting project for the 28 villages.

“I hope that the Province can help us in concreting the roads in the barangays,” said Gimena.

Balamban Mayor Ace Stefan Binghay said that under the municipal government project, it will concrete 100 meters of road per barangay every year.

Every 100-meter cemented road has a width of four meters.

Binghay said that the town’s road concreting project has been implemented for about five years.

Binghay recalled that during the stint of former governor and now Rep. Gwendolyn Garcia of Cebu’s third district, there was a road concreting project of the Provincial Government with the support of Taiheiyo Cement Corp.

“We hope that such program will be revived. During that time, every barangay received 300 or 500 bags of cement,” Binghay said.

The mayor said there are some barangays, especially those in the mountain areas, which still need to be concreted.

Provincial Engineer Hector Jamora, who attended the meeting, advised the barangay officials to pass a resolution about their request and submit this to the Office of the Governor or to Magpale’s office.
