DTI, stakeholders push for ‘green industry’

GREEN industry practitioners and stakeholders in the country as well as international organizations advocating pro-environment technologies and programs will gather in Bacolod City this week for the promotion of green economic development.

The activity is initiated by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in Negros Occidental in line with the holding of the MassKara City 2015: Trade and Tourism Expo and Conference at the SMX Convention Center on October 16.

Engiemar Tupas, acting business development division chief of DTI-Negros Occidental, said that green practitioners in the province and other business centers in the country like Cebu will talk on products like light emitting-diode (LED), solar panels, green practices like recycling of water, and pro-environment programs, including renewable and organic related endeavors.

The German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) will also present various green programs which practitioners and stakeholders can replicate in their respective business places, Tupas said.

The green industry, aside from being mostly a form of a business venture, complements with the government’s initiatives on the protection and conservation of the environment, he added.

“The green technology is associated with organic industry,” Tupas said, adding that “what is good is that the provincial government is positioning our province as organic.”

Moreover, part of the activity is a business matching, where green retailers and traders in Negros Occidental will be linked to participants and groups in different provinces.

“They might be needing LED lights and solar panels for their operations, so we will match the suppliers with the participants who want to buy,” Tupas said.

Meanwhile, DTI figures showed the current demand for organic products in the world market is P5 billion, and the Philippines has only a one-percent market share.

“Through this effort, we are also pushing for the further development of the province and country’s organic market growth,” Tupas said.
