Eddiegul files COC on his 85th birthday

ON his 85th birthday yesterday, former Cebu first district congressman Eduardo “Eddiegul” Gullas filed his certificate of candidacy (COC) for mayor of Talisay City.

After attending a morning mass at the St. Theresa de Avila Parish in Barangay Poblacion, Eddiegul together with his complete slate proceeded to the Talisay City Hall and filed their COCs at the local elections office.

Eddigul’s wife, Norma, and his grandson, Rep. Gerald Anthony “Samsam” Gullas (Cebu, first district) accompanied him.

In an interview, Eddigul said that he wants the Talisay voters to compare his achievements and that of his rival, incumbent Mayor Johnny de los Reyes.

Eddiegul, who was then an outgoing first district congressman, lost the mayoral race to De los Reyes of the Liberal Party in the May 13, 2013 polls.

Eddiegul will have former Talisay City vice mayor Alan Bucao, who also filed his COC yesterday, as his runningmate.

His candidates for councilor are reelectionists Richard Francis Aznar, Antonio Bacaltos Jr., Socrates Fernandez and Doroteo Emit; former councilors Rodi Cabigas and Arturo Bas; outgoing Provincial Board (PB) Member Julian Daan; Barangay Tabunok Chief Manuel Cabriana; Gail Restauro, son of former PB member Sergio Restauro; and Barangay Cansojong Councilor Ferdinand Rabaya.

Daan’s wife, Yolanda, will run for PB to replace the latter’s post at the Capitol.

Yolanda is joined by former PB member and lawyer Raul Bacaltos as first district PB candidates of Alayon Party.

Eddiegul said that the party had consulted with their leaders from the 22 barangays to help them in choosing the candidates for Talisay.

The party’s decision to include former councilors Cabigas and Bas in the slate was due to their experiences and track records as legislators in the previous administration.
