Exhibit shares lessons of World War II

AS BAGUIO City celebrates its 105th Charter Day, Philippine Veterans Bank (PVB) joins the Summer Capital’s festivities this September by sharing the lessons of World War II through its award-winning World War II Traveling Exhibit which will be on display at the Baguio Convention Center starting September 20.

Baguio City is no stranger to World War II as it saw not only the cruelty and atrocities of the war but was also witness to the heroism, patriotism, and determination of Filipinos especially our World War II veterans. And with the “War of Our Fathers” on display, the young generation of today will have a chance to experience what World War II was like up close through several panels of war-time photographs and memorabilia. The highlight of the exhibit will be a panel that will depict Baguio City during the Japanese occupation in the 1940s until the city’s liberation in 1945.

The exhibit will feature stories of local heroes in time for WWII anniversary of formal surrender of Gen. Yamashita in Camp John Hay on September 3, 1945.

The PVB World War II Traveling Exhibit has been touring the country since 2006 and has already earned several awards through the years including the Anvil, Gold Quill, and PANATA Awards. Displayed in malls, museums, government offices, and schools, the exhibit offers viewers a chance to experience the realities of World War II, learn lessons from it, and cherish the freedom we now enjoy. In 2009, the Traveling Exhibit was put on display at the Nanjing War Memorial Museum upon the invitation of the Government of Nanjing, China.

The mounting of the Traveling Exhibit in Baguio City is made possible with the cooperation of Provincial Government of Benguet and the City Government of Baguio.

Officials from Baguio City and PVB will be launching the War of Our Fathers exhibit onSeptember 19 through simple opening rites to be led by Benguet Governor Nestor Fongwan, Baguio City Mayor Mauricio Domogan, and Congressman Nicasio Aliping, Jr. They will be joined in the ceremony by PVB officers including EVP and Branch Banking Group Head Jesus Vicente Garcia, VP and Corporate Communications Head Miguel Angelo Villa-Real, VP and North Luzon Area Head Paul Tuazon, and Senior Manager and Baguio Branch Head Danilo Romero.

The PVB Traveling Exhibit will be open for public viewing at no cost starting September 20 until October 7, 2014. (PR)
