A tribute to extra-ordinary moms

BEING a mom is not easy.

I'm already married but not yet a mom, but I already saw from the people around me, my sibling included, sacrifice for their children.

In an article I read, one author said that natural state of motherhood is unselfishness because when you become a mother you are no longer the center of your own universe, it's already your children.

Despite the adversity, they say the feeling of contentment and fulfillment is the reward, much more seeing your siblings happy and healthy.

Six moms from the city who gave inspiration to others share their stories at Expo Mom, Davao leg at the Abreeza Mall Activity Center last September 6 to 7 this year.

The six inspiring and successful moms included the businesswoman Marga Nograles, versatile mompreneur and passionate health buff Mimi Vergara-Tupas; cheese maker Olive P. Puentespina, Marketing & PR consultant and event organizer Gel B. Ferrer; lifestyle/parenting columnist, blogger and entrepreneur Janette Huang-Teves and the music teacher Lyn Tan.

"Hands on ako eh. As much as possible, tutukan natin while our children are growing. Of course, di naiiwasan yung sa mga bata na may pasecret-secret, but depende yun kasi on how you deal with your children," Puentespina shared in an interview with other five inspiring moms at Spirale Ristorante, Abreeza Mall here.

Though she is busy with her business, Nograles lamented that she is very lucky given a chance to be a part on how her children grows, with the help of her supportive husband, 1st District Congressman Karlo Nograles.

The Expo Mom Davao leg 2014 bannered the theme 'You The Mom' is a campaign that recognizes the accomplishments of the moms, may it be big or small.

"We aim to empower women at the same time help newbie moms on how to take care of their babies, for the mom's who are into business, we can cater the products they have sa mga displays natin," said Janice Villanueva, founder of Mommy Mundo.

On its seventh year, Expo Mom is considered as the biggest event of its kind, gathering progressive active moms in an environment that's both recreational and educational.

Since it started year 2008, Expo Mom has drawn over 60,000 mom participants from the different events held in key cities.

The event became a venue for moms to establish connections and a venue for mompreneur in showcasing their products on the exhibit held.

The Expo Mom Davao was the last leg of the activity, participated in by more than 20 exhibitors.

For two days, talks and discussion with a variety of topics about parenting, fashion, etc. were discussed to the participants.

Part of the proceeds of the activity will be given to MomShare Literacy Project and to their other partner beneficiaries.

"We are looking forward na gawin ng yearly yung activity natin. Sa bawat expo's natin, nakakataba ng puso yung suporta ng mga moms natin," Villanueva added.

Being a full-time mother is one of the highest salaried jobs in my field, since the payment is pure love. Although not easy, it's rewarding. Moms can swear by it, Kudos to all the mothers!
