Brgy. councilor killed in post-drink shooting

A BARANGAY councilor was shot dead by three men in Barangay Alegria, Tuburan, Cebu yesterday dawn.

Ricardo Aquilla, 50, barangay councilor of Cogon, Tuburan, Cebu, was shot dead by his friends after attending a birthday party.

The suspects were identified as Ranel Bantay, 36; Darryl Labandero, 19; and Justino Alfeche, 49. They are all residents of Barangay Gimama, Tuburan, Cebu.

PO2 Dexter Arapoc of Tuburan Police Station told Sun.Star Cebu that the suspects and the victim were friends. They were attending a birthday party of a friend named Alejandro Pingka.

Aquilla and the three suspects were drinking when later they had an argument.

“On their way home, they ganged up on the councilor and left him in a grassy and isolated area,” said PO2 Arapoc.

Bantay grabbed hold of Aguilla’s gun and shot the councilor with it. Aquilla was wounded in his lower back and forehead.

The suspects surrendered to Barangay Gimama Councilor Jessica Capuyan and turned over a .45 pistol and a magazine.

The suspects are detained at the Tuburan Police Station. (Rhea Mae Soco, USJR Mass Comm intern)
